I click on a news article about 200 New Orleans police officers walking off the job due to inhumane living conditions and I get a Ralph Lauren 2005 Collection Accessories ad. What a strange and sad world we live in.

I am hoping we'll see a shift in the way Americans think about and react to one another.

Remember. For every bad story there is a good story. For every evil and bitter tale there is a heart warming tale of humanity and joy. The fact that the latter don't sell papers and so you don't hear of them doesn't mean they don't exist.

Sometimes we forget that were a good species. Incredibly stupid and selfish occasionally. But, fundamentally, good.

I agree. We are, under it all, good people. At least some of us. There are good things happening and some of us are participating in them. But to take out eyes off of the government and what it's doing is a mistake. Organization and education shouold be the focus at this point.

Rich, quite a comment. Goes back to something I remember from an OT logic lecture. "for nobility to have value, depravity must exist. For Good to have meaning, Evil must exist. Everything requires a context"

Mallory: Sounds a bit like moral relativism to me.

Jessica: Any of those accessories suitable for a pirate?

Increasingly we are immune to bad news that doesn't affect us directly. God forbid that commerce slow down for half a second.
